Delete your account and data
You can permanently delete your zukka account and everything associated with it at any time. There are two ways to do it.
Option 1 — Delete from inside the app (recommended)
- Open zukka and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the danger zone at the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm with your master password.
Deletion is immediate and final.
Option 2 — Request deletion by email
If you no longer have access to the app, email privacy@zukka.app from the address you wish to use for correspondence and include your account nickname. Because zukka collects no email address or phone number, the nickname is the only way we can locate an account — we cannot act on a request that does not identify one. We may ask you to confirm ownership before deleting. Verified requests are completed within 30 days (usually far sooner).
What gets deleted
Account deletion removes everything we hold for your account:
- your account record (nickname, password hash, our half of the encryption-phrase hash, creation date, country code);
- all session records (devices, login timestamps, any remaining IP data);
- your contacts and invite codes;
- all of your messages and uploaded files (which were only ever stored as ciphertext we cannot read).
What is retained, and for how long
- Nothing is retained for our own use. We keep no profile, no analytics and no advertising data — we never had any.
- Routine encrypted server backups may still contain residual data for a short period; these rotate and are overwritten within approximately 30 days, after which the data is gone from backups as well.
- If a specific record is subject to a legal preservation obligation at the time of your request, that single record may be retained only as long as the law requires; everything else is deleted normally.
There is no recovery. Once your account is deleted — and once your encryption phrase is gone — your data cannot be decrypted again on any device, by you or by us. This is by design.
